I started this whole thing the way I do most things – scribbling in one of my little sketchbooks. Snacks were on my mind (toddler life… and honestly, who doesn’t love a little snack?), I kept drawing them—cheese, crackers, peanut butter jars, cookies, and other tasty treats.
At first, I thought cheese was the way to go, which is hilarious because I didn’t even eat cheese until I was pregnant! It just felt wrong. But peanut butter? That has always felt so right! I’ve loved it forever. My lunchbox was never without peanut butter—if it was on celery, the celery was really just a vehicle for the peanut butter and always left behind. My toddler’s the same, always asking for a cracker with peanut butter caked on top.
Sketching snacks was the start of it all. Everything was sketched by hand—different shapes, refined again and again until it felt perfect. Funny story about the shape of the peanut butter jar: when I was a kid, the jar we bought would warp in the dishwasher, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever! That’s why it ended up as an odd-shaped jar in my design—it wasn’t meant to look like a peanut. :D
Once I was happy with the sketch, I had to make it digital, which was a whole new skill set for me! Learning to draw on an iPad felt so strange at first, but we managed. I turned the artwork into a seamless, repeatable print that could be used on fabric for the matching accessories—and I’m completely obsessed!
From there, I designed the whole collection with every family member in mind:
-
For the mums – because peanut butter always ends up on everything, especially our white shirts.
-
For the dads – who manage to avoid the toddler handprints and seem to prefer crunchy peanut butter.
-
For the toddlers – who, let’s be honest, get food everywhere except their mouths!
-
For the older siblings – who can’t take peanut butter to school in their lunchbox (thanks, allergies).
And of course, no collection is complete without some matching accessories for the messy mum bun and, of course, our four-legged furry friends.
What started as a little snack-inspired idea became a joy-filled, matchy-matchy family collection that I’m obsessed with, and I’m so excited to be sharing it with you!
