Bringing Peppermint Peach to life has been a dream in the making, and it all starts here—with Peanut Butter Jam, my first collection. This is the story of how it came together, from the first paper patterns to the final polished designs, all while juggling late-night sketching, fabric testing, and the countdown to returning to work after maternity leave.
From Paper to Perfection: Designing the Patterns
I knew from the start that I wanted to create each pattern myself. There’s something special about starting with a blank sheet of paper and a basic block, then shaping, cutting, and adjusting until the design comes to life. It’s a hands-on, detailed process—refining proportions, tweaking fits, and testing different fabrics to make sure every piece feels just right.
Once I had the patterns perfected, I partnered with Sew and Design by Gwenda, where we digitized the paper patterns. This step was crucial—it ensured everything aligned perfectly, every seam matched, and that the final garments would sew together beautifully. From there, the patterns were prepared for manufacturing, ready to take the next big step.
The Art of Prints: Bringing Peanut Butter Jam to Life
While the patterns took shape, I was also deep in the creative process of designing the prints. Every pattern started with a pen and paper—sketching ideas whenever I could, often during my baby’s naps or late into the night. Once I was happy with a design, I digitized the artwork, transforming it into seamless, repeatable prints that would become the heart of the collection.
Every color, line, and detail was carefully considered. I wanted Peanut Butter Jam to feel playful, nostalgic, and fun—something that families would love wearing together.
The process of turning hand-drawn sketches into a final, polished fabric print was both exciting and challenging, but seeing it all come together made every late night worth it.
Building the Brand: More Than Just Clothes
Alongside designing and sampling, I was also shaping Peppermint Peach as a brand—finalizing the logo, refining the website, and making sure every detail aligned with the vision. This wasn’t just about launching a collection; it was about creating a space where fun, connection, and creativity meet sustainability.
The journey so far has been an incredible mix of excitement, learning, and a whole lot of hard work. I can’t wait to share more as the collection comes to life, from the first samples to the final release. Stay tuned for Part 2, where I’ll dive into the manufacturing process, the final touches, and the moment Peanut Butter Jam officially launches!
